The first day of childcare is a huge milestone for parents, and whanau, as they see their little one leaving home for the first time. A study from Bronfenbrenner & Ceci, 1994 suggests that when parents are involved in supporting their child’s transition to school/childcare, they are highly likely to have higher academic success in the early grades.

It’s normal for parents, to want the best to support their children in each little milestone, especially the first day at daycare. With this comes fears and questions such as: will my child ease into daycare smoothly? Will my child make new friends? What if he or she feels angry, lonely or sad? How do I prepare myself and my child for their first day?
